Staff at a south Shropshire supermarket are still waiting for new tickets for parking meters to be printed – five months after the machines were declared out of order.

Shoppers visiting the Tesco store in Ludlow have been able to park for free for up to two hours a day as the machines are out of order.

Last month Tesco bosses revealed the machines would be brought back into use once the new tickets were printed.

But more than seven weeks on, and the tickets have still not arrived.

No date has been given for when the machines will be operational again, and one member of staff at the store said they had been told management was still waiting for tickets to be printed.

Wardens are continuing to patrol the car park to ensure motorists do not overstep the two-hour parking limit.

Tesco officials have previously admitted they were losing money due to the delay but have not disclosed any figures. Rory Stoves, press officer for Tesco, said the firm was looking into the situation but couldn’t give a timescale.

Shoppers were delighted when the machines were declared out of order and enjoyed the free parking.

Previously, residents have complained that overzealous parking wardens had given them parking tickets because they had gone into the store to get change for the machines.

Why pay to park arent things running smoothly without having to pay to park? No need to pay i dont think. Unless i am missing the point somewhere!

So let me get this right. Tesco is making profits from customers shopping at their supermarket now they are charging you to park to do your shopping?
It’s about time people stood up against these money grabers who rape the motorist at every opportunity.
There is no way I would pay to park for my grocery shopping. I would take my business elsewhere
I had given thought to moving back to the UK but having had a serious think about it and the way the UK is going I have decided to stay where I am

You can get the cost of your parking refunded in store, so it doesn’t really cost you anything. Due to the limited parking in Ludlow it is necessary so as to prevent people leaving their car in Tesco carpark all day whilst going about other business in the town. You’d be as quick to moan that you can never get a space if they abolished the charge.

I think theres a time limit so you cant park all day. Plus its another way of robbing the motorist of X number of £££s if you dont pay and display. But LJ is correct parking is limited in Ludlow and people do abuse the system.

Park there and do your shopping – I have noticed how full up Tesco is since these meters have been out of order and how busy the store has been.

Ignore the fine if you get one and ignore all the cheap threats – they cannot enforce such tickets, they will send you threats after threats – dont be intimidated, they can do noting!

The car park is not owned by the county council – just some get rich quick monkeys!
