Car hits garage forecourt shop at Battlefield, Shrewsbury
Friday 13th August 2010, 12:22PM BST.
A car collided with the front of a garage forecourt shop after the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle in Shropshire.
The incident happened at about 12.30pm yesterday at the BP garage and Spar shop at Battlefield Roundabout in Shrewsbury.
A motorist, who did not want to be named, described how he saw the Audi TT go through a safety bollard and hit the doors of the Spar.
He said if the incident had happened a few moments later he may have been seriously injured or even killed.
The motorist said: “I was very nearly hit by a car that lost control at the petrol station forecourt at Battlefield services
“I was just about to walk into the shop and walked past this black Audi TT car when all of a sudden the driver lost control of the car.
“The car went straight towards the doors near where I was and went straight over the safety bollard and hit the front door of the shop.
“If I was two or three more paces in front I would have been hit by the car.
“It’s caused substantial damage to the doors and to the car.”
Police, fire and ambulance services were not called but the man said the driver of the vehicle was left visibly “shaken” by the ordeal.
He added: “I was in shock myself and couldn’t stop shaking after it happened.
“Another guy who saw it happen said to me ‘I would put your money on the lottery tonight’.”
