Woman drove at mother and baby in Bridgnorth

A 34-year-old woman who twice deliberately drove her black 4×4 car at a mother and her baby in Bridgnorth was given a three-year conditional discharge.

Telford magistrates also imposed an open-ended restraining order on Suzanne Jones not to contact the victim Sally Cox.

Jones, a mother-of-three, of Sandpit Lane, Hilton, Bridgnorth, was also ordered to pay £350 costs.

Following a trial this month Jones was convicted of harassment involving a course of conduct of verbal abuse, abusive gestures and driving her car at the victim.

At court yesterday defence solicitor Mr Chris Grainger said that his client intended to lodge an appeal against her conviction. He alleged that Jones maintained her innocence.

During the trial Miss Cox had said she was left “shaking and scared” and said she had felt intimidated by the two driving incidents in the town centre in March while out with her six-month-old daughter in a buggy.

She said the first incident happened as she was crossing the road in High Street and said that Jones had deliberately driven towards her, but she was able to get between two parked cars.

The second near miss a few days later was near the Northgate Arch and Miss Cox said Jones swerved towards her and was shouting abuse from the car.

The court heard the harassment had started in February when Jones swore at Miss Cox in the street.

Jones, who has previous convictions for violence and public order offences, had denied confronting Miss Cox in the street and denied driving at her.
