Post stolen from delivery bike in Telford
Thursday 12th August 2010, 6:17PM BST.
A bundle of personal mail belonging to 15 homes in Shropshire has been stolen, police said today.
A postman was delivering in Granville Street, St Georges, Telford, when he left his bike and delivery pouch at the end of the road while he started his round on Monday morning.
Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: “Meanwhile the postman, a 28-year-old man, spotted a man running towards a parked car from the direction of where his bike and pouch was.
“He thought this was a bit suspicious and went back to the bike. The pouch was there but a bundle of mail had gone missing.
“He approached the man, who was in a parked black Fiat Bravo, and asked him if he knew anything about it – but he said no before driving off towards Gower Street.
“This is really quite an unusual theft and we would appeal to anyone with information to contact us on 0300 333 3000.”
Royal Mail spokeswoman Sue Dakin confirmed a bundle of mail, due to be delivered to 15 homes in Granville Street, had gone missing.
She said: “All of the customers affected have been notified by letter.
“Royal Mail takes the security of its customers’ mail very seriously and we will work with police where necessary.”
