Police search over Telford sex attack

Police were today combing a patch of woodland in Telford following reports that a woman was sexually assaulted.

The woodland, opposite the BP service station in Mound Way in Woodside, was cordoned off early this morning while officers carried out a detailed search of the area.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said the patch of land was being searched in connection with a reported sexual assault last night.

He said: “We received a report at 11.40pm that a woman in her mid-30s had been the victim of a sexual assault.

“The assault was reported to have happened in the area of the woodland.

“We cordoned off the scene and a number of officers were today carrying out a search in connection with the inquiry.

“We are liaising with the victim to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.

“Inquiries are continuing and will carry on over the coming days.”

Anyone with information they think could help the officers with their inquiries should contact police at Telford on 0300 333 3000.

Callers can, alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 and their calls will be treated in strictest confidence.
