Oswestry heritage rail targeted again
Wednesday 11th August 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Thousands of pounds of tools have been stolen from Oswestry’s heritage railway – the second raid on the line in a fortnight.
Thieves smashed their way into a railway carriage, used for storage, and took various tools with a total value of about £6,500.
The raid is a blow to the volunteers who have been using the tools to rebuild the platform at Oswestry’s Station Building, a key part of the plan to restore the Cambrian Railways rail line.
Volunteers found the break-in when they arrived at the Cambrian Railways headquarters in Oswald Road at 7am yesterday.
Railway enthusiast Brian Rowe said some special railway tools were taken. They included a balance impact machine, a rail cutting saw and a rail drilling machine.
“The only people that will be interested in that sort of stuff will be other railway restoration schemes,” he said.
