Hanwood care home ‘to bring 70 jobs’

More than 70 jobs are set to be created under plans to build a care home at a farmhouse in Shropshire.

Esquire Pearl Realty Ltd has applied to Shropshire Council to build a 78-bed facility at The Oaklands, Hanwood Bank, Hanwood, near Shrewsbury.

Bosses say the home, which will provide 24-hour care and will be operated by European Care, could create 60 full-time and 15 part-time jobs if it is approved by planners.

A design and access statement submitted by agents J-Ross Developments Ltd says: “The Oaklands is no longer the operational basis from which the surrounding land is farmed and as a result the barns and other outbuildings are now redundant for agricultural purposes.

“The application involves the demolition of the farmhouse and all its associated buildings to create a cleared site on which to construct the nursing care home.”

Officials say a public consultation about the plans was held in April 2008 and was attended by more than 90 people.

The J-Ross statement says that the home would specialise in treating people suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease and would be run as a teaching care home “a development of the concept of a university teaching hospital”.
