VAT fraud inquiry sees Market Drayton premises raided

A business premises in Shropshire was raided today as part of an investigation into suspected multi-million VAT and money laundering fraud.
During the operation, codenamed Quicksilver, officers from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) searched nine premises around the country which resulted in five men being arrested this morning.
Seven domestic and two commercial premises in Staffordshire, Shropshire and Greater Manchester were searched as part of the operation, but nobody from the premises raided in Market Drayton was arrested.
The men are believed to be part of an organised crime syndicate purporting to trade in large quantities of high value caravan accessories.
Gary Lampon, assistant director of criminal investigation for HMRC, said: “Tackling VAT fraud is one of our top priorities.”
