Shropshire man grabbed passenger by throat in train fight
Tuesday 10th August 2010, 9:04AM BST.
A Shropshire man involved in a fight on a train in the early hours has been given a six month supervision order and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
Carl Phasey, 19, of Greenacres, in Ludlow, grabbed another man by the throat during the incident on a packed train from Hereford to Craven Arms at around 1.45am on March 27.
It led to some girls leaving the train in tears and saw a number of other passengers get involved to try and separate the fighting men.
Phasey admitted a public order offence of using threatening, abusive and insulting words and behaviour towards others causing them to fear unlawful violence at a hearing at Telford Magistrates Court yesterday. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs.
Mrs Becky Jones, prosecuting, told the court the incident had happened while Phasey was on the way home from a night out in Hereford. She said he had got involved in an argument with another man and the pair had started grappling.
Mr Julian Tutchener-Ellis, for Phasey, said his client had been provoked by the other man continually kicking his chair.
