Church blow for Ludlow housing scheme
Tuesday 10th August 2010, 7:40AM BST.
Leaders at an 800-year-old Ludlow church, which attracts hundreds of tourists a year, have dealt a double blow to plans to build five luxury homes next to the building.
Members of St Laurence’s Parochial Church Council in Ludlow have claimed that any homes built on land behind 9-10 King Street would cast a shadow over the church’s iconic east window. And they have also refused to allow developers permission to take building materials across the church green to access the site.
Hundreds of objections from town residents have been lodged against the plans to build the homes, submitted by St Laurence Homes Ltd, with many fearing parts of the town centre could be closed for up to two years while development takes place.
The site earmarked for the homes has no road access, with building materials expected to be brought to the site either through Upper Linney or from King Street – potentially causing congestion in the town centre.
No-one for St Laurence Homes Ltd was available to comment.
