An anonymous letter has been sent to detectives investigating the murder of a teenager whose charred body was found in a Shropshire shed nearly 20 years ago.
Liam Wright, who lived in Brookside, Telford, died in a mysterious shed fire next to Madeley Ski Slope on September 10, 1990.
The case was dramatically reopened last month after police arrested a man in his late 30s on suspicion of murder.
Detective Inspector Paul Knight, of West Mercia Police’s major incident unit in Stourport, said the man had been released from police bail without charge today.
But he said a number of new leads were being followed up – and said police were particularly keen to speak to the author of the letter, which puts forward fresh claims about the circumstances leading to the 19-year-old’s death.
“Since the arrest new information has come to light, and a number of new leads are being followed up in relation to this investigation,” Mr Knight said.
“Police are particularly keen to speak to the author of an anonymous letter that has been sent in to the investigating team, who would encourage the writer of this letter to contact them if possible as soon as they can to discuss it further.”
Anyone who has information on the investigation is urged to call Telford police on 0300 333 3000, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
