Man and boy hurt in Telford quad bike accident

A MAN AND a 12-year-old boy have been seriously injured after the quad bike they were riding on collided with a car on a Shropshire industrial estate.
The pair, who were not wearing crash helmets, were at Halesfield Industrial Estate in Telford at about 9.15pm yesterday when the crash happened.
The man on the bike, believed to be in his 40s, suffered serious leg injuries and suspected head and chest injuries.
The boy also suffered serious leg injuries and a laceration to his head.
John Hawker, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said three ambulances attended the scene and took the patients to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital.
The driver of the car was checked over at the scene by ambulance crews but did not require hospital treatment.
He said: “On arrival at the scene, crews found a quad bike and a car that had been in a significant collision.
“The man and child that were travelling on the quad bike had suffered serious injuries. The hospital had been pre-alerted to the patients’ arrival and their serious injuries.”
Police said today the boy was still in intensive care in hospital but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers said the man suffered a suspected broken leg and spinal injuries that are also thought to be not life-threatening.
Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: “We are trying to find out what caused the crash and we would like to hear from anyone who can help us.”
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a cyclist has been taken to hospital after a collision with a car in Shropshire today.
The cyclist, a man believed to be in his 50s, was riding along Donnington Wood Way in Telford at about 7.30am when his bike collided with a black Vauxhall car. The man was treated at the scene and taken to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital as a precaution.The driver of the car was uninjured.
