Preparations were being finalised today for the 125th Oswestry Show.

Organisers of this year’s show say the event is set to be a bumper one with something for everyone ranging from a JCB stunt team to sheep shearing contests.

Janet Ward, from the show, said tomorrow’s event at the Park Hall showground would also give people a chance to look back at the event’s long and illustrious history.

She said: “To mark the 125th anniversary of the show, Montgomeryshire Vintage Machinery Society will display a selection of horse drawn ploughs, corn reapers, hand tools, sheep shearing equipment, dairy equipment, laundry equipment and of course their usual array of vintage tractors and stationary engines.

“A parade of many of these vehicles will take place around the main ring after the horse judging.

“Visitors will be able to view this display along with memorabilia and photographs taken over the years in a special exhibition in a marquee sited in the vintage area.

“We would like to thank all those that have sent photographs and information into the show office.”

Bosses have also announced that the Welsh National Charolais Show will be staged during the event.

Organised by the Welsh Charolais Region and major sponsors, Rumenco and the British Charolais Cattle Society, the show is offering £3,000 in cash sponsorship, together with silverware and other product prizes. More than 100 entries are expected to the 17 classes which are open to exhibitors throughout Britain.

Show chairman Philip Jones said: “We pride ourselves in being essentially an agricultural show attracting more than 15,000 visitors, which promotes the industry up and down the Welsh borders and beyond.”
