Four-car smash on A5 at Shrewsbury
Wednesday 4th August 2010, 9:45AM BST.
Traffic was brought to a standstill following a four-car smash on a busy Shropshire road today.
The collision occurred on the A5 between the Preston and Emstrey islands at about 7.40am – and was followed by another crash 15 minutes later just after the road reopened.
Richard Ewels, West Mercia Police spokesman, said the four-vehicle collision involved a Nissan Terrano, a Peugeot 106, a Vauxhall Corsa and a Volvo V70.
He said: “The collision was reported by a passing motorist. There was slight injury to one driver but an ambulance was not required.
“Both lanes were blocked for a short time and the road was reopened both ways by 8.10am.”
He said the second crash was a minor incident that happened near to Salop Leisure, on the Emstrey island, at about 8.15am.
“It involved a red VW Golf and a lorry which failed to stop. There was slight damage to the car but no injuries and the road was not blocked.”
He urged anyone with information about the lorry to contact the police.
