Court date may delay Grant Holt’s new season
Wednesday 4th August 2010, 4:50PM BST.

Former Shrewsbury Town striker Grant Holt could miss out on the big kick-off for his new side on Friday – after magistrates ordered he must appear in court on motoring offences.
Holt, 29, is now captain of newly promoted Championship side Norwich City, which are due to start the new season on Friday night with a televised Sky Sports clash against Watford.
But magistrates at Shrewsbury today refused a request from Holt’s solicitor to adjourn a trial due to start at Market Drayton Magistrates Court on Friday.
Holt, of Warwick Road, Carlisle, has denied failing to give the identity of a driver. He was not in court today.
Mr Paul Nicholas, for Holt, said: “Grant Holt is a professional football player for Norwich City who used to play for Shrewsbury Town.
“It is the first game of the football season this weekend and the match is going to be played live on Sky TV.
“Unfortunately the game has been moved to this Friday evening. Mr Holt is the captain of the team and the squad is due to play in Norwich. There is no way he can get to court in the required time and play in the game.”
The case was first listed at court last November.
Mr John Barnett, prosecuting, said: “We oppose this application. This case has been dragging on for some months now and we think the trial should go ahead.”
The magistrates refused to adjourn the trial saying it could not be delayed further because of the age of the offence and adjournments had already taken place.
Holt played for Shrewsbury in the 2008/9 season, finishing as top scorer with 20 goals in 43 games. He moved to Norwich for a fee thought to be £400,000.
