Youths steal teenage girl’s purse in Oswestry

A teenage girl was robbed of her purse by a gang of youths who pushed her to the ground during an attack in the early hours of Sunday morning in an Oswestry street.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the girl, who is in her late teens, was pushed over and had her purse stolen by the gang.
The victim suffered an injury to her eyebrow caused by banging her head on the ground as she fell.
Investigating officers are now studying CCTV camera images in an attempt to identify the robbers.
The robbery happened between about 2am and 2.35am on Sunday.
The victim had just stepped out of a public telephone kiosk in Bailey Street when the gang of robbers struck.
Police spokeswoman Maria Wilkinson said: “The group ran up, pushing her over and snatching her purse from her hand.
“As she fell, the victim hit her head on the ground, causing swelling to her left eyebrow.
“The group of youths, all males who appeared to be in their teens and wearing dark clothing, ran off towards Croft Street.
“CCTV is being examined from across the town in an attempt to identify those responsible.
“Anyone who might have witnessed the incident or who has any information as to the offenders’ identities is asked to contact police on 0300 333 3000.
“Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where operators will not ask for your name and a reward is sometimes offered.”
