Police appeal as Buttington crash motorcyclist fights for life
Tuesday 3rd August 2010, 11:18AM BST.
A motorcyclist was today fighting for his life in hospital after being badly injured in a serious collision with a car on Cefn Bridge in Buttington, near Welshpool, in Mid Wales on Sunday.
The man was airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Dyfed Powys Police said it was making a fresh call for witnesses of the collision to come forward.
Antony Topazio, force spokesman, said today: “The Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit is appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic collision that occurred on the A458 Cefn Bridge, near Welshpool.
“The collision occurred at approximately noon and involved a motorcycle travelling from the Shrewsbury direction and a car travelling from the Welshpool direction colliding on the bridge.
“The rider of the motorcycle who is from the Midlands was airlifted to hospital where his condition has been described today as very serious. The driver of the car received no injuries.
“Police would like to trace a silver motor car that was travelling behind the motorcycle when the collision occurred and may therefore be able to provide evidence.”
Witnesses are asked to contact Constable Phillips at the Newtown Mid Wales Roads policing department on 0845 3302000.
A four-vehicle smash also occurred near Newtown yesterday, at the junction of the B4386 and the B4398 at Abermule at 5.40pm.
Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the scene along with the air ambulance which was later stood down as no-one was injured in the crash.
