Thief walks into Telford house, takes car keys and drives away
Monday 2nd August 2010, 9:00PM BST.
Homeowners in Shropshire were today warned to be on their guard after a family had their car stolen by a thief who brazenly walked into the house and took the vehicle’s keys.
The owner’s 13-year-old son was upstairs while his parents went to the takeaway when the thief struck in Aqueduct, Telford, at 8pm on Friday.
The thief stole a red Renault Clio, HK06 SRO.
Police said the teenager heard somebody in the house and when he went downstairs he saw the car being driven off the drive.
Pete Simmonds, spokesman for Telford police said summer security needed to be top of the agenda for residents as opportunist thieves target gardens and homes with unlocked doors and open windows.
“The offender walked into the house on Aqueduct Road and took the keys off the side — the keys also had the house keys on as well.
“Patrols searched the area but so far the vehicle has not been recovered. I would urge anybody who may have seen this vehicle to contact police. As they have the keys they may well have tried to sell it on or may be using it.
“This shows just how quick opportunist thieves can be. We would urge residents to keep garden sheds locked and to secure bicycles and not to leave windows and doors unlocked.”
