A 16-year-old Telford schoolboy’s dream came true when he performed a song from The Lion King on national television.
Fraser Callaghan, from Malinslee, was among the stars of John Barrowman’s Tonight’s The Night, on Saturday, on BBC1. The programme gives people the chance to achieve their dreams, with its presenter organising money-can’t-buy events.
Mum Karen said: “Fraser has suffered from high tone deafness since he was a youngster and has now also lost sight in his right eye. But he has always wanted to be a performer, and has a ‘never give up’ attitude and inner strength.
“When he discovered I had nominated him for the show, it took him three days to get over the shock, but the whole thing was a totally amazing, awesome experience.”

Singer Narren McLean performed with Telford schoolboy Fraser Callaghan. They are seen with show host John Barrowman
A spokesman for the BBC said: “Fraser spends most of his spare time rehearsing and performing in school shows and youth theatre productions. Despite going through the trauma of losing the vision in one eye, and being diagnosed with high tone deafness, Fraser has shown great strength.”
The programme followed Fraser from London to Glasgow, as the cast of The Lion King helped him fulfil his dream.
Karen said: “John Barrowman was great, giving Fraser tips on how to get over his stage nerves and Fraser is now in touch with many of the Lion King cast members on Facebook.
Fraser is to study performing arts at Thomas Telford School in September.
