Dozens of brave volunteers stepped up to the challenge of abseiling down one of Oswestry’s landmark buildings as part of a fire service fun day.
Daredevils from around the area lined up to rope down Oswestry’s 50ft fire station training tower on Saturday in the Rotary Club of Oswestry Borderland’s fundraising challenge.
Firefighters from the town station also took the opportunity to spread fire safety message to everyone who attended the fun day.
Youngsters were also able to take a close up view of some of the service equipment and even had the chance to enjoy a look around two of the station’s appliances.
Firefighter Alan Walker said: “It was an absolutely tremendous day and the turnout was fantastic.”
Rotary volunteers said they were delighted with the success of the abseil challenge, which raised about £5,000.
A team of nursing and care staff from the Derwen College in Gobowen took part in the abseil challenge, raising nearly £400.
Karen Evans, from the group, said: “I found it absolutely terrifying but I am happy I did it. I have never done anything like that since I was 16 years old.”
Money raised from the challenge will go to Rotary charities.
