Shrewsbury Quarry could become wedding venue

Couples could soon tie the knot in the floral splendour of Shrewsbury Quarry, it was revealed today.
Plans are afoot to throw open the famous park and its Dingle gardens for people to get married there.
Councillors in Shrewsbury last night said they were in favour of the idea.
Councillor Miles Kenny, who was at a meeting of Shrewsbury Town Council’s recreation and leisure committee, said they would be looking at a range of venues for civil ceremonies, including the bandstand, Dingle and the area by the greenhouse.
He said the council would be drawing up plans for a range of uses for the Quarry, including weddings, in the autumn.
The proposal was put forward by a resident.
Councillor Jon Tandy, who is on the committee, said: “We’ve had a request from someone saying they’d like to see the Quarry used for weddings. I think it would be nice to see civil ceremonies in the Dingle with all the flowers around. I would absolutely be in favour of this, as I would with anything that makes more use of the Quarry.”

I saw a wedding party only recently arrive in style in a vintage car and walk down to the dingle to have photographs taken.
As a public space will it not interfere with those enjoying quiet reflection?
Plenty of seats dedicated to dead people around so I suppose it has got a church like atmosphere.

why on earth would some couples want to get married in the quarry/dingle is beyond me.

good idea, fair play at least theyre being entrepreneurial with limited powers as a town council they are looking to do something proactive and productive

Great idea, as long as the Wedding March music doesn’t exceed 65dB.

I thought that in England, you can only get married in a permenant structure?

Interesting Kelly, perhaps the bandstand would suffice!
If this concept is for civil weddings then the STCRA are not going to support it.
They dont like families with different surnames so I cant see them supporting those not getting married in a church.
