A donkey rescued after it was sent on a horrific parascending ride in a sick stunt in Russia could be rehomed in Shropshire, it was revealed today.
Shropshire Donkey Rescue is working to get the donkey brought to the sanctuary at Billingsley, near Bridgnorth.
The terrified donkey, called Anapka, screamed and wailed as it was towed into the skies and hauled along on a parasail ride behind a boat.
The donkey was flown over the Azov Sea near the village of Golubitskaya in a warped bid to advertise beach sports to tourists before being dragged through the water as it landed.
Witnesses, some of whom filmed the incident, described the creature as “half dead” when it was finally released.
The man responsible, believed to run a beach activity firm, could be jailed for two years. Staff at the donkey sanctuary today vowed to provide a place at its 20-acre farm for Anapka.
Founder Amanda Ball, 31, said: “We were horrified to read what Anapka went through.
“Donkeys are such gentle and intelligent animals, it’s difficult to understand how anyone could treat one so cruelly.”
Discussions have been opened with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to explore the possibility of bringing Anapka to the UK to live out its life in peace and quiet.

Absolutely sickening!
Russia has always been a very harsh and cruel society.

‘Absolutely sickening!’ – Your darn tootin’ !(providing your referring to making the donkey parasail as opposed to finding it a safer home)
‘Russia has always been a very harsh and cruel society.’ You see, now you’ve gone and spoiled it with a generalisation.
Let’s be kind to donkeys and also kind to the kind people of Russia!

I hope she gets a home here! She deserves it.

That is so cruel. I hope the donkey sanctuary are successful in bringing Anapka over – the poor thing deserves a more peaceful life after having to go through that.

That is so sad! People are so freaking sick!!! I hope Anapka gets to a new, safer, happier place & the one’s that did this, punished!!!

It would an fantastic achievement to get her over here, and no doubt she’ll be able to have a long, happy, peaceful & dry life.
PS – note to editor, it’s the Dept FOR Environment, Food and RURAL AFFAIRS, not as stated in the article above. Sort it out!!

I’ve changed it. Sorry, guv.

This makes me absolutely sick what they did to this poor animal. If the guy responsible for this is not prosecuted, I hope the news and newspapers put his face on for everybody to see and at least shame him.
That’s horrible.
It’s just a shame that donkey’s can’t talk or understand. Someone could of explained to it that it wasn’t going to get hurt and then it may have been able to enjoy the para-sailing like lots of humans do – perhaps it would’ve eeyored!
Also, if you could speak to the donkey at least an element of choice could have been provided.
Still sad though.

Hi Helen
I’m Russian, and resent the aspersions you’re casting on a whole race. Russians are very giving. Since the Cold War ended, I have raised over 30,000,000,000,000,000 Russian Drachmas (equivalent of £3.26 of your English Sterling Silvers) in aid of sanctuaries like the one you have in your shop, Shop shire. What does your shop sell? Sanctuary? Stars? If you had a star to sell, I would use my £3.26 to buy one
love Russ

The poor animal! I’d like to drag the owner through the water behind a boat – without the parasail! I hope he is jailed for a long time, and what we hear about russian jails is true. I hope the Donkey Sanctuary is sucessful in their bid to bring Anapka here to a happy, and fear free, life.

What a cruel thing to do to any animal, let alone a donkey, a friend of mine got two resecue donkeys, and they are such lovely and gentle animals and to see this, it is just sickening.
I do hope that the donkey can get sent over here, to live its life out without anymore cruelty to it. Maybe the owner should be strapped to a parachute and dragged up in the air and along the sea,to see if he likes it.

I work on a building site as a hod carrier and have to do work which even prisoners would not be asked to do due to human rights acts. I would love to go parasailing but simply couldn’t afford to despite all my hard work. lucky donkey i say. Sounds as though he had a dream holiday. I can picture him now coming through arrivals with a human mannequin tucked under one of his legs.

Robert,
Would you be kind enough to let us all know specifically where in the human rights act it dictates that you have to have poorer working conditions than a prisoner, or where it says prisoners cannot do hod-carrying? Alternatively you could tell us that you just made that bit up.
Also, do you really want prisoners to do hod-carrying – wouldn’t that put your job at risk, given that they’re not subject to the minimum wage?

i assume the russians were cruel in 1961 in putting laika the dog into space, he came down safely. but i totally disagree with the treatment of that donkey
as a way of demonstrating how kind our army are to their horses, you may be interested to know the kings horse troop horses are on a weeks summer holiday cornwall, galloping up and down in the sea on the beach near hayle. apparantly it is an annual event for these horses and is a change from the pomp and ceremony of hot sticky london. let us hear it for the kings troop!
