Friday 23rd July 2010, 11:29AM BST.
A 53-year-old man, who came from a village near Whitchurch, has died in a road crash in Scotland, where he moved with his family four years ago.
David Courtney Hockin, formerly of Bettisfield, died after the car he was driving left the road, struck a wall and overturned.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of the smash at Friockheim, near Arbroath.
It is thought he had been travelling home from work when the accident happened last Friday.
The road was closed for several hours to allow traffic officers to examine the scene
The father-of-three had moved with his family to Renmure, near Arbroath.
He leaves his wife Gail and children Tom, Eleanor and Charlie.
The family had returned to Bettisfield only about two weeks ago to catch up with friends.
Today, villagers paid tribute to a “pleasant” and “well-liked” member of the community.
The vicar of St John the Baptist Church, the Rev Clive Hughes, said: “The village was hit with shock when we heard the news that David has died so tragically at a young age.
“It was my job to tell a couple of people and it was clear that he was a popular and well-liked man.
“The family were already in the village when I moved here about six years ago. I got to know them quite well and they were all very pleasant.
“I know David had to commute regularly to the Scottish borders for work purposes, which is why the family decided to move to Scotland.
“They were still in contact with a few people in the village and had only come back to see them about two weeks ago.”
Mr Hockin’s funeral was taking place today in Farnell Parish Church in Scotland.
