Friday 23rd July 2010, 10:33AM BST.
A Shropshire woman who recently celebrated her 104th birthday has died.
Jenny Davies who lived at the Meadowbrook Care Home, Gobowen, died away on July 14.
She celebrated her 104th birthday with a family party at the Lion Quays in May, a tradition that the family had carried on after she reached her centenary.
Born in Carmarthen, Mrs Davies married Herbert Davies at the age of 30 and became a minister’s wife.
They moved to a Welsh chapel in Birkenhead and spent the war years enduring the bombing of dockyards and Liverpool.
After the war they returned to South Wales.
Her only son Roger said that they moved to the Oswestry area to be closer to him and the family.
“The couple spent the final years of their lives, at Meadowbrook, sitting side by side each day in the conservatory and in July 2007 celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary.”
“Despite Herbert’s passing at 98, Jenny continued to live a contented life for another three years at Meadowbrook.
She leaves her son, Roger, and three grandchildren, Lindsay, Briony and Nick and their families.
Mr Davies said: “Always charming, polite, considerate, with a ready smile and willingness to charm all whom she met – she was a lovely warm, and delightful person, who will be sadly missed.”
