Suspended Ludlow College principal has quit

The principal of a south Shropshire college who was suspended from his role for more than four months, has quit his post, it was announced today.

Chris Conoley has resigned as principal at Ludlow College after he was suspended on March 8.

The college has undertaken an investigation for more than four months.

Today, officials at the college could not confirm why Mr Conoley had been suspended or whether the investigation has now come to an end.

A spokesman said Mr Conoley would officially leave the post with effect from July 31 and the former principal will leave because of “personal reasons and to pursue other career opportunities”.

Dr Ewart Carson, chairman of governors, said: “Chris has agreed with the governors that he now wishes to pursue other avenues in his career and we wish him well”.

Previously, college officials said Mr Conoley was suspended from his post to enable an investigation to take place in response to a number of complaints and concerns reported to the governing body.

Stressing at the time that suspension was a holding measure and a neutral act, a spokesman said the investigation would be carried out by an independent, external person to ensure a full and thorough investigation was undertaken.

Mr Conoley said: “There is much I shall miss about the college, which has been a great place to work with many valued colleagues but I am looking forward to a new chapter in my career.”

He joined Ludlow College in April 2008 and has overseen a period of change during his time with the college.

Jonathan Davis will remain as acting principal while arrangements are made to appoint a permanent principal.
