At least eight people involved in fight, say police
Tuesday 20th July 2010, 2:00PM BST.
An early hours fight involving at least eight people – some allegedly carrying iron bars and one an air pistol – broke out in Telford, police said today.
Officers were called to Grange Road in Ketley Bank at about 1.30am on Sunday, following a report from a member of the public that a large fight involving a “significant number of people” was taking place.
Police sent patrols immediately but found all quiet on arrival. Officers believe the men may have been tipped off that they were on the way.
Sergeant Dave Miller, who was on duty when the incident was reported, said: “When officers did house-to-house inquiries, it became clear that at least eight individuals had been involved in the disorder.
“Some of these individuals had left the scene in vehicles when they realised the police had been called.
“This is an unusual incident and it goes without saying that we are keen to establish what exactly did happen between 12.30am and 2am on Sunday morning and who was involved.
“We have a number of leads to follow up and will be doing this over the next few days.
“The report we received stated that some of the individuals — all of whom appear to be men — involved in this disorder were carrying weapons such as iron bars, while one of the men involved was also said to have been carrying an ‘air pistol’.”
No arrests have yet been made in relation to the incident.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who can confirm the identity of anyone involved, is urged to call Telford police on 0300 333 3000.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
