Sunshine brought the crowds in their thousands to Builth Wells today for the first day of Wales’s premier agricultural show.

And organisers of the 2010 Royal Welsh Show promised the four-day event would provide something for everyone.

Show president Dai Jones said organisers hoped to attract bumper crowds this year.

He said: “The weather forecast is predicted to be a bit unsettled throughout the week which means we could have a few showers, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.”

He said one of the biggest investments in nearly 50 years of the Royal Welsh Show would be unveiled at this year’s event.

The £1.6 million food hall was due to be opened at 11am today.

Officials have described it as a “landmark building” and one of the most ambitious projects at the showground.

It has double the exhibition space of the old facility, and it has taken five years to raise the money to pay for it.

The show is also hosting the world sheep shearing championships this year.

Livestock entries stand at 8,000, with record numbers of cattle and sheep.
