Arrests after pedestrian hit by car in Broseley

A pedestrian was seriously hurt when he was struck by a car in Shropshire. The man, 33, suffered multiple injuries in a collision with a silver Peugeot.

The accident happened yesterday, at the Brandywell Road junction with Cockshutt Lane in Broseley, just after 3.30am.

Police have arrested three men in connection with the incident. They have been interviewed and released on police bail, pending further inquiries.

The injured man was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford with serious head, back and leg injuries. He was later transferred to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham, where his condition is stable today. His name has not been released.

Fire crews from Tweedale, Much Wenlock and Wellington were called, along with an ambulance and an incident support officer from the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Inspector Mark Hatton, from West Mercia Police, said: “Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call 0300 333 3000.”

John Hawker, from the West Midlands Ambulance Service, said the man had suffered “serious injuries.”

The road was closed for four hours following the incident.

In a separate accident, a man suffered head injuries when his car hit a lamp post in Hadley Park Road in Leegomery. The smash happened near the junction with Leegate Avenue shortly after 8.20pm yesterday.

The casualty, who is believed to be in his 30s, was released from the Audi A4 before firefighters arrived and taken to the Princess Royal Hospital.

Ian Pugh, watch manager at Wellington Fire Station, said the man was lucky not to have been more seriously injured. The street lamp, was later isolated.
