Call for big turnout at meeting on Lake Vyrnwy future
Friday 16th July 2010, 11:00PM BST.
People living around Lake Vyrnwy who are concerned about their future after the sale of the estate was announced Severn Trent are being urged to attend a public meeting.
The 23,000-acre estate is on the market with an £11 million price tag.
Now Llanwddyn Community Council has turned its next meeting over to the public for them to have a say.
The meeting will take place on July 26 from 7pm.
County Councillor Simon Baynes said it was a chance for people to express their fears.
He said: “The community council has made its monthly meeting into an open meeting and we are hoping that representatives from Severn Trent and the estate agent Knight Frank will be there.”
Many of the farms and houses around the lake are owned by water company Severn Trent and will be part of the sale. The lake is not included in th sale.
Councillor Baynes said: “People who have short leases on their properties are naturally very worried about their security and who their landlord might be.”
He said there were also worries about potential new owners and whether they will invest in the area.
“The closure of the school has led to the old school building lying empty. There may be a chance now for this to be given a new lease of life if the new owners put money into the area or if Severn Trent take heed of a call for it to give 10 per cent of the sale price back to the community,” he added.
A spokesman for Severn Trent said it was considering sending a representative to the meeting or one from agent Knight Frank.
