Telford speed humps to go after complaints from pensioners
Tuesday 13th July 2010, 7:58PM BST.
These are the speed humps Telford & Wrekin Council traffic chiefs plan to rip out following complaints of pain and discomfort from pensioners when travelling over them.
The raised tables in Majestic Way, Aqueduct, Telford, were put down six years ago costing thousands of pounds as part of traffic calming.
But they are now to be removed after engineers ruled they were indeed too high following complaints from Arriva that they were damaging buses.
Members of Telford and Wrekin Senior Citizens’ Forum, who also complained about the height of the humps, today welcomed the move.
The group has been lobbying the council for more than a year to take action against speed humps in the borough after a survey revealed one in five members reported physical discomfort, and in some cases severe pain, when travelling over them.
Forum co-ordinator Anne-Marie Davies: “Our members are delighted by this news. The results of the survey were staggering and implied hundreds of Telford residents were likely to be in pain, suffering in silence travelling through the town.”
