Oswestry food festival will be bigger in 2011
Tuesday 13th July 2010, 11:46AM BST.
Oswestry’s Food Festival could be will be even bigger next year, organisers have said.
More than 60 local food producers set out their stalls at the two-day festival last weekend.
Today festival director John Waine said the event was set to grow because it had been so well received by visitors and traders alike.
But he said it should remain an event first and foremost for the people of the Oswestry area.
“For next year, we have considered extending along Church Street towards Cae Glas Park — bringing in other other food and musical elements.
“The festival should grow to serve the needs of the town and it’s people, and no more.”
Mr Waine is urging people to contact him at www.thebestofoswestry.co.uk or e-mail him at oswestry@thebestof.co.uk to give their views about the festival and how they would like to see it develop.
Oswestry has another day celebrating its retail uniqueness at the end of the month.
Oswestry’s Traders’ Day will be held in the town centre on July 31.
Street entertainment will also be on offer, including theatre re-enactments, musicians, dancers, circus entertainers, magicians, and street artists. There will be competitions, the Cambrian Railway group will run train trips throughout the day and art exhibitions will be held.
The project is supported by Shropshire Council through a grant of £1,500 from the Oswestry Local Joint Committee.

I applaud the organisers for organising such a great event, which certainly attracted the crowds into town. So well done, and can not wait to the next one.

Another brilliant festival! Lots of great food traders and so many people in town. Good boost for local businesses and the market. I went around talking to the traders and more than one commented on how, compared to other food festivals they have done, Oswestry was so well run and organised. So well done guys! Again, your hard work paid off!
Do we have to have only one a year?!!

Contrary to the disinformation spread by some, Oswestry is a thriving town, despite the recession. The Food Festival was a fantastic success. Well done!

When visiting my old home of Shropshire I bought a pork pie in Oswestry for lunch. It was superb and if I had the Money I would pay all expenses for an Oswestry Pork-Pie maker to set up a shop here in Brisbane to train someone then supply the ENGLISH pub called The Pig-n-Whistle at Riverside.
He would make a $million.
No one, but NO ONE knows or even bothers to make Pork-Pies here.
HELP PLEASE!
