Girl, 10, hurt avoiding yobs on quad bike
Tuesday 13th July 2010, 5:00PM BST.
A 10-year-old girl was injured after jumping out of the way of yobs riding a stolen quad bike in a Telford street. The youngster was playing with her friend in Festival Gardens, in Arleston.
As she was playing, two male youths lost control of the quad bike which mounted the pavement and crashed into a hedge.
The girl injured her hand when she was forced to jump out of the way at 4.50pm on Saturday.
Police today said that the girl was lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries.
Officers believe the Suzuki quad bike could have been the same one stolen from Woollam Road, in Arleston, some time after 1pm the same day.
Chris Ammonds, spokesman for Telford police, said they had also received reports of anti-social behaviour on Lime Kiln Lane, in Wellington, at 4.15pm that day, where witnesses reported children riding around on mini-motos or quad bikes.
Mr Ammonds said: “Two males crashed a quad bike on Festival Gardens.
“There were two girls playing on the pavement and one, a 10-year-old, suffered a minor injury to her hand as she jumped out of the way as the bike collided with the hedge.”
He said that the two youths fled the scene leaving the damaged quad bike behind.
Mr Ammonds urged anyone who saw anything suspicious in Woollam Road where a red Suzuki quad bike, worth £400, was stolen from or anybody who saw the incident in Festival Gardens to contact police on 0300 333 3000.
