Crowds pack Quarry to see 80s stars

Thousands of people turned back the clock in Shrewsbury’s Quarry and danced to some of the biggest names from the 1980s charts.
Rick Astley, Spandau Ballet’s Tony Hadley and Go West were among the acts performing to nearly 7,000 people in a four-hour show last night, which began in bright sunshine and ended with a spectacular fireworks display.
Other names on the bill included ABC, Howard Jones and Mica Paris, who opened the concert at 7pm.
The singers performed their biggest hits and also sang covers of songs by Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie, as well as hits by modern acts such as The Killers and The Feeling.
In a change from the two previous 1980s concerts, the headliners also teamed up for a number of duets.
Alison Lowe, of promoters IML concerts, estimated that 6,750 tickets had been sold.
