Vandalism forces closure of Oswestry’s Castle Bank
Friday 9th July 2010, 6:00AM BST.
One of Oswestry’s ancient monuments has been closed to the public after vandals damaged a fence.
Public access to Castle Bank, a former motte and bailey castle, was stopped after the removal of the fence made the area unsafe.
The town’s mayor, Elaine Channon, says the vandalism in the town is disgraceful.
David Clough, from Oswestry Town Council, said: “Someone pulled down the railings at the back of the mound at the top. There is a bit of a drop so for safety reasons it is closed. It is just one section of railing that has been kicked down.
“People won’t be able to go up the mount until it is safe for everybody. It is more annoying than anything.”
Councillor Channon said: “We have had so much vandalism lately between the new park in the railway and Cae Glas Park.
“My opinion in general all this sort of thing is absolutely disgraceful.
“People go round damaging so many of the nice attractive parts of the town and the interesting parts of the town.”

It’s the vandalism season. The schools have let all the Year 11′s out and they just run wild. Claim the money back from the schools to make good the damage. They will have been paid to teach Year 11 in June and July.

How about the fines going to the parents? It is their responsability!

Liz, That is an awful sweeping generalisation. I am sure that not ALL year 11′s are “running wild” its unfair to mount all the towns vandalism problems on one set age groups. I am not saying they are all innocent of course, just that appalling sweeping generalisations like this are damaging for the GOOD people in year 11.

Dan,
Grow up.
All the yobs are like that, always have been always will be. I agree fully with Liz.
If they aren’t going to stop with the vandalism, then stick them all on a 7pm curfew. That will stop them then, and they will soon think about the bad things they are doing.

How well you missed the point. are you accusing the entire of year 11 of being yobs?

A visable Police force in the town may help, instead of catching cash cow motorists on the A5.

Dan’s right! How dare you tell him to grow up just because he’s evidentally not a knee-jerk idiot who believes every single teenager is a yob and a vandal?!? And as for the suggestion that the schools get forced to pay for any vandalism in their local area… are you insane? Do you actually have the power of thought? Go and read your daily-mail instead of embarrassing yourself on a public form with your ill-informed and poorly though-out “ideas”. Morons.
