Eisteddfod boss baffled by rival’s funding award
Friday 9th July 2010, 2:00PM BST.

The chief executive of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod said he was “baffled” to hear that another North Wales festival had “suddenly, interestingly and overnight” been awarded £240,000 by the Welsh Assembly.
Mervyn Cousins said eisteddfod organisers had accepted that it would lose further funding from the Arts Council of Wales, before hearing of the Assembly’s grant to the Faenol Festival.
“We have no clash with the Faenol . . . but myself and my board will definitely take this further once we have delivered yet another successful international week of celebrations,” he said.
The Welsh Assembly has indicated that it will work with Llangollen festival on funding issues in the future.
Assembly spokesman Matthew Pritchard said: “The funding for the Faenol Festival comes from the Assembly Government’s major events budget, the objectives of which are clearly outlined in the major events strategy. Which organisations the Arts Council for Wales chooses to fund is a matter for them.”
