A49 section to close for Cholmondeley Pageant of Power

A seven-mile stretch of a major trunk road on the north Shropshire border will be closed to through traffic as up to 40,000 people are set to attended an event.
Police say the closure of the A49 is a necessary safety measure as thousands flock to the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power on July 17 and 18.
It is the third festival of its kind at the castle that blends action on track, water and air.
While up to 40,000 are expected to attend the event over the two days, a further 8,000 people are due to attend a Fireworks Concert on the Saturday evening.
Derek Griffiths, the Cheshire Police Eastern Area events officer, said: “Drivers should allow additional time for their journeys or look for alternative routes.”
The A49 Whitchurch Road from its junction with the A534 Wrexham Road at Ridley to its junction with the B5476 Tarporley Road, north of Whitchurch will be closed in both directions.
The closure will run from 8am on July 17 to 1am on July 18, then begin again at 8am on July 18. The road should finally reopen at 6pm on the Sunday.
