Tomorrow’s big summer concert at Shrewsbury’s Quarry featuring 80s stars Tony Hadley and Rick Astley has been extended so fans can hear even more of their favourite hits.

Organisers say the party will now be “even better” as the show has been extended to start at 7.15pm and end at 10.45pm.

It was due to start at 7.30pm but organisers say the show is running longer than anticipated.

More than 6,000 tickets have been sold so far.

A spokeswoman for IML Concerts, which is organising the event, said: “There’s even a grand firework finale to round off what promises to be a magical night out at one of the county’s most attractive settings.”

Headlining the show is Tony Hadley, fresh from the Spandau Ballet world tour, and he will also be joined on stage by multi-million selling artists Rick Astley, ABC, Howard Jones, Mica Paris and Go West.

The artists will be playing songs from their massive repertoire of hit records and for the first time on this concert series they will also perform specially chosen duets and collaborations.

Hopes have been raised that more big name acts could be encouraged to perform at the outdoor public park in the future after a new licence for the Quarry was approved earlier this week.

Shrewsbury Town Council applied for the licence with no restriction on noise following huge support from music fans.

It was approved by Shropshire Council with no specific noise level in place as the decibel limit will be set for each event individually.

And the reason the Quarry is closed to ordinary citizens for ticket only events when the Show Ground could be used instead, is… what, exactly?

I think the point is to promote spend within the town, thereby creating jobs and wealth… both of which are to the benefit of all members of the community…

The business case for such is proven beyond all doubt.

What exactly is the nature of your gripe? That anything happening in the Quarry be open to all free of charge? If that is the case do you object to the flower show as well?

      Member of STCRA?

Because if they opened it up to non-ticket holders noone would buy a ticket would they? No ticket sales = no revenue = no event. Jeez.

Put these gigs in the show ground and people will turn up in their cars and then leave at the end of the evening. The quarry is a beautiful setting for these events and being in the centre of the town means those attending will use the pubs, clubs and cafes before and afterwards.

    Bring on the Quo!!!! :)

Still no word from the STCRA? They must have gone on holiday to avoid the terrible noise and chaos of tomorrow night’s concert!

Did anybody see that Tom Jones documentary the other night? Now he’d be a good headliner…

        Now that would be popular!

        Any other suggestions?

The Quarry, in the summertime, is a cracking venue and I am sure the usual turnout, likely to increase with the draconian measures now lifted, would be enough to tempt big names.

How about Muse, one of the best live acts in the country, they stole the show at glastonbury.

Just out of interest, which area of the town do you live in and can you hear the concert in all rooms of your house with the doors & windows shut?

I live in Monkmoor and can hear the concert over the noise of our television!

I have no problem with promoting business for the town but think that people’s concern about noise shouldn’t be dimissed!

          Ben,

you must have a hearing problem! I was out walking the dogs, much closer than you, and while I could hear the concert there was no traffic noise and it was hardly deafening…

Not into Tom Jones really, but i would go to see him live. Few drinks and singing along to Delilah.

Ad, same here, not a huge Tom Jones fan, but he would be a real crowd pleaser and I think the aims of the music interest groups should now move to promoting a more diverse range of acts so that everyone can enjoy this amazing asset, not just a specific niche.

The noise emanating from the football stadium way dominated over the Quarry concert for us. Sadly the noise from the stadium was not music.
