Probe into killing of Shropshire falcons is ended
Thursday 8th July 2010, 2:05PM BST.
An investigation into the killing of two rare falcons which were found poisoned at their nest site in south Shropshire has ended.
Police launched the extensive investigation after the two dead Peregrine Falcons were found dead in the Clee Hill area on May 6.
Constable Paul Sparrow, who led the investigation, said: “Despite extensive inquiries by the police, with assistance from the RSPB and Natural England, the investigation has unfortunately come to an end at this time.
“However, the case will remain open and any further evidence that may come to light in the future will be acted on.”
John Tuner, for the Shropshire Peregrine Group, said the organisation was disappointed.
He said: “I appreciate the time and effort the police have taken to investigate it but from our point of view it is not entirely satisfactory because a prosecution would have been the best sort of deterrent that we could have hoped for.”
