Thursday 8th July 2010, 10:30PM BST.

A 54-year-old man was pulled to the ground before having cash and his benefits book stolen as he returned from a trip to a post office in Telford.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the robbery in Dawley at about midday yesterday.

Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said: “As the victim – a 54-year-old man – was making his way home over a footbridge having picked up his benefits from the post office, it appears he was approached from behind and pulled to the ground.

“While he lay on the ground an unknown man and woman went through his pockets and then stole his pension book, his pension card and around £95 in cash before quickly making off towards Dawley.”

The man involved in the robbery is white, about 6ft and wearing a white coat or hooded top, while the woman was described as being of mixed race.

Witnesses should call police on 0300 333 3000.
