Letter: NatWest is here to help (Mondays and Thursdays only)
Thursday 8th July 2010, 9:58AM BST.
Letter: I had no idea that bankers had a sense of humour. Outside the NatWest branch in Llanidloes a notice has been put up to say that Natwest is there to help.
Inside the bank there is displayed a customer charter that spells out 14 very high-minded points. (Rather like President Wilson’s famous Fourteen Points.)
All amazing commitments to become ‘Britain’s most Helpful Bank’. But by their works shall we know them.
The Llanidloes branch has recently been reduced from five days a week to only two: Mondays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm.
I am seriously thinking of moving my account from NatWest to some other “helpful” bank.

Consider yourself lucky that you have a bank that you can (barely) use – I would imagine it’s part of a foreseeable closure. In Albrighton, Barclays closed it’s only branch, inconviniencing local businesses, the elderly, those without transport – indeed alienating all customers. I now have to travel 6 miles to my local branch (I also have online banking but often it’s not quite good enough) just to pay in a cheque. I’ve been a customer for 20 years and now have to change my bank account due to their ‘cost savings’. I’d hardly call it progress.
