Telford housing scheme will go ahead
Wednesday 7th July 2010, 12:13PM BST.

A scheme to build 59 homes in Telford costing almost £3 million will go ahead after all, it was announced today.
Treasury chiefs have released more than £30 million of funding, which had been in doubt, to the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) for projects in the West Midlands.
It includes the Wrekin Housing Trust development of Dothill, in Wellington, which will see the demolition of 90 flats.
They are to be replaced with 59 homes which will include two, three and four-bedroom houses, maisonettes and flats.
Planning permission was granted for the scheme in March by Telford & Wrekin Council, but Wrekin Housing Trust chiefs were nervously awaiting the funding decision after the change in government and widespread cuts.
Johanne Thomas, communications manager for HCA, said the scheme would be completed by the end of June 2012. She added: “The scheme is a locally significant estate regeneration project involving the demolition of seven three-storey blocks of flats and the refurbishment of one other. ”
Schemes were also given the go-ahead in Dudley, Walsall, Stratford-upon-Avon, Cannock and Wychavon.
Paul Spooner, HCA regional director for the West Midlands, said the schemes will be a major boost for local communities.
