Llangollen Eisteddfod’s big parade – in pictures
Wednesday 7th July 2010, 9:00AM BST.
Crowds of people lined the streets to watch a colourful parade of performers dancing and singing through the streets of Llangollen. The rain held off yesterday as thousands watched the annual Parade of the Nations.
Each year for the last 60 years the colour and entertainment of has spilled out into the streets of the town.
The procession was headed by the town’s mayor, Councillor Mike Pugh. And Terry Waite, president of the Eisteddfod, was driven through the streets in an open top classic car.
Others walking in the parade included the Seattle Children’s Choir, Bawa Brass Band, Northern Ireland Folk Dancers, Tibetan Monks, Broadland Youth Choir and Sri Lankan performers.
Resident Vonda Jones said: “It was the longest parade I have seen for many years. I am glad it stayed dry.”
Heather Petrie, also from Llangollen, said: “It was a really good parade. One of the best for a number of years. It was really nice to see the Tibetan Monks.”
Christina Kitchen, from Epsom in Surrey, said she has been coming to Llangollen for the last 20 years to see the parade.
“I think the parade is absolutely marvellous,” she said. “This year was lovely.”
It was the first time Jean and Lyndon Strafford, from Johnstown, near Wrexham, had seen the parade.
“It was very colourful and entertaining.
“I didn’t realise there would be so many people.”
