Arriva plans to close two Shropshire bus depots
Wednesday 7th July 2010, 3:45PM BST.
Arriva today announced plans to close two bus depots in Shropshire and create a super depot in Telford.
Bosses at the transport firm have submitted a planning application to Telford & Wrekin Council to open the new bigger depot at Stafford Park in Telford.
If it gets the go-ahead the firm’s existing bases in Wellington and Shifnal will close.
It is understood no jobs will be affected by the move, with all staff from Wellington and half the staff from Shifnal relocating to the new site in Telford. The other half will transfer to the Arriva depot in Bridgnorth.
A report submitted with the application, talking about the move to Stafford Park, says: “This will centralise the workshop facilities in particular and place the operation close to the centre of Telford, the area that it serves.
“It is understood that the Well-ington and Shifnal depots are problematic and therefore the relocation will be beneficial to residents around the existing depots.”
Arriva said the new location was chosen after “extensive” postcode research of staff.

Tiddles,
I think perhaps you are confused over the difference between a bus depot and a bus station.
Buses are stored and serviced at bus depots.
You will still get on the bus at the bus station.

Does that mean that bus services to Stafford Park might be better than the usual ‘one every 3 days if the moon is in the right phase’ then? Lets hope so.

Good news, buses queuing at current depot in Wellington causes all kinds of problems in the evening. Although I will miss watching the bus drivers amazing parking skills from the curry house over the road.

This will not work. Oh, some bright spark in an office in Cannock SAYS it will work. But the truth is that buses leaving the depot at Stafford Park will get caught up in rush hour traffic so will not get to the starting point of bus routes in time to commence the journey.
So, what will happen? Picture the scene: “Well, we’d best have the next 55 miss ‘adley Centre. ‘av’ it run down from the Stafford Park depot, without passangers, on the M54 and go down past Tesco. Then it can join the 55 route on the ‘aybirdge roundabout. The passangers won’t like it, but as we are ther only bus service provider in Telford, they’ll ‘av’ to lump it!”
