Summer of delays during Oswestry A5 roadworks
Tuesday 6th July 2010, 8:25PM BST.
Motorists face a summer of delays on Shropshire’s A5 with 10 weeks of roadworks beginning next week.
Daytime traffic lights and night time closures are being brought in for resurfacing on four locations on the road either side of Oswestry.
The Highways Agency says the work will improve skid resistance and reduce noise. The work will start on Monday and involve about 10 miles of the A5, one of Shropshire’s busiest roads and a trans-European Highway.
The sections of road include the Shotatton crossroads to Queens Head and Wootton to the Mile End roundabout to the south of Oswestry, the Park Hall section of the Oswestry bypass and the section between the Gobowen and Gledrid roundabouts.
Momataz Begum, for the Highways Agency, said: “The works will be carried out in four sections of approximately two-and-a-half miles in both directions and will improve the skid resistance and noise reduction of the carriageway.”
He said that during the work, traffic lights and convoy working would be in place to escort road users through the works during the day.
At night the A5 will be closed with a signed diversion route in place. This diversion can also be used as an alternative route during the day to ease congestion.

Thanks for the heads up. I have to go to North Wales next week, I think I’ll be planning an alternative route. That road’s bad enough at the best of times.
