Letter: Too much being spent on Malinslee?
Monday 5th July 2010, 8:14AM BST.
Letter: Regarding the 200 people who signed the petition that MP David Wright and Councillor Sahota launched demanding Malinslee has a play area.
Malinslee is the highest financially supported estate in the borough, statistics show this has been the case for more than a decade. Malinslee is situated in the hub of Telford and has acres of open green space.
Is the town park not big enough or close enough for you? Is it too much effort for parents to take their children along to play on equipment designed for every age.
Try having to make two bus journeys during school holidays so your children can spend a day having fun in Telford town park, planning packed lunches and managing the weekly income to make it possible.
Malinslee has had more than its share of assistance and still its residents beg for more. They can relax in the knowledge that those who live very happily on my council tax contribution will do anything to ensure their names are remembered!
Time for Malinslee people to stop crying for more and spare a thought for the rest of Telford.

oh do stop your bleating, come down off your soapbox and look at it from thier point of view, they HAD a park which was removed with the promise of one being put back, like the meerkat would say “simples”.

” time for malinslee people to stop crying and spare a thought for the rest of Telford ”
time for J Askew to stop banging on about the people of Malinslee and start a campaign to get more facilities for Newport.
How dare you criticise people for trying to improve the area they live in.

here here, cant agree with you more, take a look at the “DAWLEY”-wood sign to see a bit of local focus and pride

…and a large area of the Town Park to the southeast of Malinslee was the subject of a successful planning application last week for several hundred houses.
No problem say the council, because the previous administration decided that was no longer part of the Park.
why waste tax payers money on facilities for Malinslee. 5 minutes after they are opened they’ll be wrecked, graffiti strewn and so full of used needles that the kids won’t be able to play there anyway. I thought it was the Borough of Telford & Wrekin not the Borough of Malinslee!!!

How narrow minded are you!
Isnt this more cause to encourage children in this area to be better instead of letting them fall into the same pattern?
Also, isnt it funny how its only the people from the less deprived areas are the ones with the negative comments? I’d of thought that boosting the popularity of the Borough as a whole would be more important to them than hanging on to their ‘higher’ status.

My Oh My how far up your own proverbial are you! I don’t live on Malinslee but know people who do. They keep their homes and gardens in beautiful condition, work hard and are very respectable people. How dare you class the majority the same as the minority. It doesnt matter where you live, there will be someone using drugs close to you.

newport has a play area it’s called victoria park by the swimming pool it also has a bit of a play area off the boughey road so you have no need to make bus journeys it’s ridiculous to say newport has nothing take you kids along the canal (that’s next to vicky park)

there is a bit of a difference between telford town park and victoria park, which is still a building site at the moment
Report abuse
There is also a bit of a difference in population in Telford compared to Newport.
The funny thing about this is that not many people in Newport consider it to be part of Telford yet they cry foul when they don’t get any of Telfords funding and regeneration money..
That’s because it is NOT Telford’s regeneration money.
It is the regeneration money for Telford and Wrekin Borough. Which includes Newport and several other places outside Telford.

Malinslee is also one of the most deprived areas in the West Midlands, Newport is not! It right that money is spent in this area.
Newport has deprived areas too, its not just nice houses and pretty views. just like how mainslee isnt just deprived areas
the money going into mainslee obviosly isnt working if after years of getting more money than the rest of the bourough and it is still frankly seen as no go area along with woodside.
maybe a new approach is needed.
also has anyone ever tryed to get funding for a newport event from t&w, its bloody hard because they tend to favour Telford, especially Wellington.

How nice the David Wright has found his voice to call for help for the people of Malinslee! Why was he silent for so many years, previously? Oh. Sorry. The wrong party is in power, now at the council.

As an ex resident of Malinslee i am struggling to think of cash previously spent on it perhaps someone could enlighten me?
As far a i recall the pub pulled down, the play area field scrapped to make way for a new school replacing 2 previous ones, the local shop has been decimated too.
So just what has gone into Malinslee that is to the benefit of the local residents/Children, The School and thats it.

The writer makes a fair point about the proximity of the town park and there is certainly an element of Labour party propagandizing about the matter, but that said, wouldn’t we all like a local councillor like Sahota? I’ve seen the man at Dawley Remembrance Sunday Church service and been served by him at the League of Friends cafe in the PRH. He strikes me as more of a “doer” than a political mouthpiece, so Labour or not, I like the guy.

Not sure of the points on either side, but last week on a gloriously sunny day, I saw three teenagers in the park at lunch time, no young kids but plenty of evidence of alcohol consumprion. If this resource is going to continue to be under utilised, what benefit will there be in creating another play area for kids to ignore and others to get drunk in?
Its because of the teenagers that there were no children at the park, did you notify the police by any chance..

lets see malinslee isn’t this the ward where its councillors have been subject to scrutiny of their attendance and conduct ? Two more labour seats up for grabs keep it going lads , its not as though labour councillors have represented malinslee for the last fifty years or so is it ! how did the telephone mast which was given planning consent under the last labour administration go ? I dont agree with bob there are real problems within telfords labour group and they are fundamentally failling to address the most serious affecting people in daily life. The criticism is of all its members which is why they’re in the position that they’re in. In the face of the most sweeping public sector cut backs why are they concerned with a small park when they have the town park on their doorstep. its an absolute nonsense.

As a resident of Malinslee and a mother of small children i dont believe that adding a park will solve problems just create them, however i do believe that re-opening the comunity centre is a better idea.people should not look so negatively at Malinslee as there are worse drug and alcohol ridden places in telford only one area can be done at a time

Malinslee doesn’t need a park, the town park is a few minutes walk away. The parents need to stop being so god damn lazy. However if the police did the job they should be doing and got rid of the criminals in the area maybe the parents wouldn’t mind walking there kids to the town park through malinslee so much!
I lived in Malinslee for 18 yrs of my life and know exactly what the area is like. The better area’s are the royal estates etc. When living there i remember occassions where the school could be getting broken into at night and the police wouldn’t turn up if called yet the police would turn up to kick children of the school field for playing football. There no different now either, the police can’t or won’t do the job there paid to do.
