Schoolchildren blamed for Oswestry park vandalism
Wednesday 30th June 2010, 6:20PM BST.
Oswestry’s Cae Glas Park is suffering vandalism, with the culprits feared to be schoolchildren, it was claimed today.
Sprinklers have been detached, wasting hundreds of gallons of water and leaving bedding plants unwatered.
Yesterday a sprinkler system was smashed.
Council officials say the vandalism is happening at the start and the end of the school day. They are now working with local schools to try to find out who is responsible for the damage.
Town mayor Councillor Elaine Channon said she was appalled and disgusted by the behaviour of a tiny minority.
“People of all ages enjoy Cae Glas Park, the jewel in our crown and celebrating its centenary,” she said.
“I am appalled that there are people who seem intent on spoiling the enjoyment of the majority.”
Glenys Davies, facilities manager at Oswestry Town Council, which is responsible for the day to day management of the Victorian Park, said other vandalism has included the smashing of a toilet after the England World Cup defeat.

Does the cctv camera that is in the park not working, surely, if it is broken the cost of repair would in the long run be cheaper than the cost of all the damaged done.

Presumably your schools have done the same as the rest of the country and let the students go once they’ve done GCSEs. All those 16 year old with nothing to do for 10 weeks is just asking for trouble. The schools have a responsibility to educate children for 196 days a year and they are letting society down by not doing so. The net result is the onset of the vandalism season.
