Consultation on future of Welshpool
Monday 28th June 2010, 11:07AM BST.
Residents are set to be given the chance to shape the future of Welshpool at a number of consultation events set to be hosted by Welshpool Town Council from next month.
The events will give residents the chance to have their say on how the town will look in years to come.
The move is part iof major plans for a proposed multi-million pound transformation of the town, which have been brought forward by councillors.
The council said today that plans to redevelop the town centre, which could create up to 1,500 jobs, had come a long way over the last few years.
It said proposals for a new hotel, and other commercial premises in Mill Lane and more shops on Church Street car park were now being developed, and plans would be submitted by the end of the year.
Robert Robinson, town clerk, said: “We are now developing a ‘Welshpool Going Forward with Pride’ plan and will be holding consultation’s in the town over the next few months. The new plan is to be the subject of consultation from July 1 to October 7. Following that a final draft will be on display during late October 2010 for final comments.”
He added: “The plan asks for everyone to put forward one thing which you would like the council to do which would improve Welshpool.”
He said consultations would take place at Welshpool Town Hall Corn Exchange on July 27, August 10, September 7 and September 21 between 2pm and 7pm and at the town’s Mark Village in the town hall on September 11 between 10am and 1pm.
A special youth presentation for 10 to 18-year-olds is set to take place at the Corn Exchange on September 14 between 3pm and 6pm.

They should knock it all down and start again. I wanted to drop off 2 boxes to a charity shop on Friday and had to drive round the block 3 times before deciding to park on double yellow lines and dashing to the shop.

I hope consideration has been given to the external look of the new Tesco and any other future buildings to keep it inline with the existing buildings in the town. In such a picturesque town we do not want a brightly coloured and lit up Tesco when it could be externally kept to match existing buildings as was the old station. Keep our look and we may keep our visitors!
