Couple’s World Cup clash
Friday 25th June 2010, 12:21PM BST.
Loyalties will most definitely be divided in one Shropshire household with a husband and wife backing opposing teams when England takes on Germany in Sunday’s eagerly-anticipated World Cup clash.
Chris Eldon Lee will be raising a glass and saying cheers to England while wife Hannah Litschmann will be saying “prost” to Germany.
Chris, who works in radio and theatre, said he would be drinking English beer and flying the flag for England this Sunday while Hannah, who works as a shiatsu therapist at the Shrewsbury Natural Health Centre, will be wearing her 1954 Germany football shirt to support her nation.
The couple, who live in Betton Strange, near Shrewsbury, married last year.
Hannah, who is from Ravensburg, in southern Germany, agreed to support England through the group stages while Chris supported Germany even agreeing to fly the German flag from his car.
But he said: “We’ll be sitting on separate sofas or possibly hiding behind them during the game.”
He added: “We were hoping they’d avoid each other and we could see an England/Germany final.”
Meanwhile, an England fan who wandered into the team’s dressing room after the Algeria match was due to appear in court today.
Pavlos Joseph, 32, from Crystal Palace, south-east London, will appear at a special World Cup court in Cape Town where he is due to go on trial charged with trespassing.
