An 82-year-old man who died in a four-vehicle crash in Mid Wales was from Llanwyddyn.

Mr Tecwyn Hughes, who lived in the village near Lake Vyrnwy, was involved in the accident on the A495 Meifod to Llansantffraid road at 4.15pm on Friday.

Two other people were injured in the accident with one, a woman, taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment.

Today Katrin Hughes, from Llangadfan, confirmed the man who died was Mr Hughes who was her father-in-law. She said he lived in Llanwyddyn. The accident closed the road for seven-and-a-half hours as firefighters worked to release one of the patients from the wreckage and make the road safe.

A spokesman for Dyfed Powys police said: "Tragically an 82-year-old local man received fatal injuries. The next of kin and the coroner have been advised of the death."

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have information that could help the investigation to contact them on 101 if calling from Wales, or 0845 3302000.

Emergency services at the scene of the tragedy included firefighters from Llanfyllin and Llanfair Caereinion, and the Welshpool based Welsh air ambulance.
