Two more British soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Two more British soldiers have been killed in shooting incidents in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said today.

They were both from 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment and died in the Nad-e Ali District of Helmand.

Their families have been told.

Their deaths follow that of a Royal Marine who died yesterday after a firefight on Sunday.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand Lieutenant Colonel James Carr-Smith said: “Both soldiers were part of security patrols that were involved in operations to improve freedom of movement for local nationals in Nad-e Ali, Helmand Province, when they were killed by small arms fire.

“Their bravery and boldness in the face of danger will not be forgotten.

“They died in the course of their duty, amongst their comrades and whilst improving the lives of ordinary Afghans. We will remember them.”

How very sad. We are loosing the very best of our brave young men.

I have had two sons serve in the area, it makes me feel so humble.

Our thoughts are with the families in this very, very sad time

How many more of our troops will we have to lose before the government does the right thing and withdraws them from this uncivilized country. The comment from the Task Force spokesman beggars belief. Just recently there was the debacle involving Mark Leader who spotted a Taliban planting an IED 50 meters from his base. He threw a wellington boot at him and for this was sacked. This after many years service and awards for bravery. If this is the way the “brass” thank the troops for what they are doing then I am glad I am not out there. No doubt some pompous idiot will say “that’s their job, that’s what they are paid for” and my response would be ********. Afghanistan is a lost cause and whatever good we may do there will soon be negated once we leave them to their own devices. PERSONALLY,,I couldn’t care less if they blow each other to pieces, get our men back and leave them to it, or, replace them with volunteers from the respective governments who decided they should be sent there. Be a bit thin on the ground then I suspect.
